Saturday! In this weekly feature, Axel Falk embrace the role of the Trequartista and roams free through the world of football. Before you go out for drinks or settle down to watch Bundesliga, update yourself by enjoying "Trequartista."
Derbyweekend! It's the North London Derby and the Revierderby on the same day (Sunday), which is very convenient because then you'll have to choose between two great games instead of watching them both! And yes, that was sarcasm. Am I happy both games are played on Sunday? Of course not! But I'll have the Saturday off to watch and enjoy Hoffenheim vs Frankfurt (another derby-ish game). Now I don't know about you. Maybe you feel you just won't care about the derbies this weekend? Well, then you can watch Leverkusen versus Cologne! Oh, no, sorry. That's another derby.
20 minutes by train separates Cologne and Leverkusen. Both are located in the massively populated Rühr-area in Northrhine- Westphalia in Western Germany. Leverkusen have both been terrific and horrific this season as their defence has been shambolic, but you feel like they could score half a dozen goals any game. One of the strongest attacking sides in Germany, their attacking ability is to be feared, even though 1. FC Köln have been solid in defence. Köln's defence is probably one of the most underrated in Europe. Last season they kept a grand amount of clean sheets and their goalkeeper Timo Horn is one of the best keepers in Germany. The defenders are good players too, with the best being German international Jonas Hector. As one of the more surprising sides in this year's Bundesliga, Köln have impressed most people affiliated with the league and they have certainly impressed me.
Oh and one more thing. There's this game in Italy this Sunday which is also a derby. Roma against Lazio, the fantastic tie everyone forgot. When in Rome, let's take a quick look at the Serie A. I have a recommendation for you if you fancy some Italian football this weekend. Apart from Roma-Lazio, Sampdoria play Fiorentina. Now this is a game not many people would watch, but as we at Fresh off the Gegenpress try to be as hipster as possible, this game could prove to be something else. Fiorentina are exciting to say the least.
Naja, whether you watch Fußball, Calcio or football, enjoy the derbies this weekend, you just can't avoid them.
